Jeremy Singletary, a high school quarterback, experiences an unimaginable loss. In the aftermath, he discovers a mystery in the past that has haunted his family for years. Sometime it's best to leave the skeletons in the closet.
The Cold Black is the first short story I ever wrote for myself. It was inspired by Stephen King's Sometimes They Come Back. The first time I wrote it--on an old ribbon typewriter that weighed about eight hundred pounds at the age of sixteen--the story came out as a Goonie's-type tale. After a few re-writes it morphed closer to the desired idea. The past colliding with the present in the form of ghosts who come to collect on owed debts.
