This was a new idea that came to me literally at the 11th hour. Most of the stories have been in the Garbage Pile for years. This one unfolded itself as I wrote it. I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do or where I wanted it to go until it was done. The inclusion of a character in another story in The Cold Black was a cool little detail I enjoyed throwing in. The ending surprised even me.
