The Meatman

The Meatman

Michael and Joanne are homeless and hungry. A long run of bad fortune turns for the better when they both land a job. Michael begins stocking groceries at a local supermarket and loves the work and his co-workers. One fateful night turns deadly when Michael learns his co-workers are not what they seem.

The Meatman is one of the more brutal tales in The Cold Black. It's a tip-of-the-cap to Clive Barker. This idea came to me while working 3rd shift in a grocery store. Weird noises, squeaky grocery cart wheels, elevator music, and Clive Barker inspiration led me to Meatman.

Another Easter egg: The name of the grocery store came from someone famous who was known for actions similar to those in this story. The Meatman, Jeff, was inspired by another famous criminal. Who do you think?
